Hogwarts Legacy is not alone in falling short of actual representation. Marginalized communities have been left on video gaming's sidelines, and Hogwarts Legacy missed a huge opportunity to make a statement and include a potentially intriguing and exciting story (both given Ryan's identity and her hinted status within Hogsmeade) for players to enjoy. Still, if they are to be truly represented, they need to be more than set-pieces included to stave off criticism or check a box for diversity. Of course, not every character from a marginalized group needs to be front and center of what, ultimately, is the player's story to play out.
